Andy Diaz è campione del mondo nel salto triplo: oro a Torun con 17,47!

Torun, Poland – March 20, 2026 – Italy’s Andy Diaz has secured the gold medal in the men’s triple jump at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, marking the first medal for the Italian team at this year’s competition. Diaz won with a leap of 17.47 meters on his first attempt, solidifying his position as a dominant force in the event.

The victory comes 364 days after Diaz’s triumph in Nanjing, where he similarly claimed gold and set a new Italian record. He demonstrated masterful control throughout the competition, conserving energy for a season that won’t feature further major international championships.

Diaz’s opening jump was a statement of intent, registering 17.47 meters and accompanied by a visible expression of dissatisfaction and a glance towards his coach, Roberto Donato. It signaled his capability for even greater distances – his personal best indoors stands at 17.80 meters. Jamaica’s Scott (17.29m) and Algeria’s Triki (17.17m) followed, but were unable to challenge Diaz’s early lead.

Italy’s Andrea Dallavalle, a silver medalist at the outdoor World Championships and European Championships, had a slower start, managing 16.34 meters on his first jump. Diaz followed up with a jump of 16.91 meters on his second attempt, extending his lead as his competitors struggled to respond. Dallavalle improved to 16.88 meters, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

A brief moment of distraction occurred as Diaz adjusted his attire, responding to social media commentary regarding the national team’s uniform, which some fans deemed insufficiently blue. He then paused, observing his rivals, including Dallavalle, whose subsequent attempts failed to significantly improve his position (16.90m).

The competition narrowed to the top eight jumpers for the fifth round. Scott and Triki faltered with unsuccessful jumps (17.31m and 17.26m respectively), while Dallavalle was unable to advance further, finishing seventh overall. Diaz effectively secured the gold medal, with Scott unable to mount a challenge.

With the gold medal secured, Diaz attempted a final jump but fouled, rendering it null and void. But, it didn’t diminish his victory. This marks Diaz’s fourth medal since becoming an Italian citizen, with consistent podium finishes at European Championships, World Indoor Championships, and the Olympic Games – with the exception of the Tokyo World Championships. While 17.47 meters wasn’t the distance he had hoped for, it secures his position as the season’s leading triple jumper.

The Italian team’s strong start to the World Indoor Championships sets a positive tone for the remainder of the competition. The event in Torun continues tomorrow with further medal events.
