BIRMINGHAM, England – Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah of Indonesia are moving on to the quarterfinal round of the 2026 All England Open Badminton Championships. The Indonesian duo defeated compatriots Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in a tightly contested match on Thursday, securing a 22-20, 21-18 victory at the Utilita Arena Birmingham.
The round of 16 clash between the two Indonesian pairs proved to be a thrilling encounter, showcasing the depth of talent within the Indonesian national program. Both teams, representing Pelatnas Cipayung, demonstrated a strong understanding of each other’s games, leading to a closely fought battle throughout both games.
The first game was neck and neck, with both pairs trading points and refusing to concede an inch. Amri and Nita edged slightly ahead at times, but Jafar and Felisha consistently responded, keeping the score level. At 20-20, Amri/Nita demonstrated composure, securing the final two points to take the first game 22-20.
The second game followed a similar pattern, characterized by intense rallies and strategic play. The Indonesian pairs continued to exchange leads, with neither able to establish a significant advantage. Although, Amri and Nita once again proved their mettle in the crucial moments, capitalizing on opportunities to pull ahead. From a 18-17 score, they secured two consecutive points to reach match point, ultimately closing out the game 21-18 and sealing their place in the quarterfinals.
“Alhamdulillah, we’re very happy to be able to play in All England for the first time and to win,” Amri Syahnawi said following the match, as reported by PP PBSI. “We were able to execute what we’ve been practicing. It’s a great feeling.”
Nita Violina Marwah added insight into their tactical adjustments during the match. “We changed a lot in that match. I focused more on the front court and didn’t lift the shuttle as much, because Seidel has a very good overhead game. We were also more prepared defensively, playing tighter. That had a significant impact on our win today.”
This victory marks a significant milestone for Amri and Nita, particularly as it’s their debut appearance at the prestigious All England Open. Their performance underscores the growing strength of Indonesian mixed doubles badminton on the international stage.
Currently ranked 17th in the world, Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah will now face a challenging quarterfinal matchup against the winners of the contest between Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie MacPherson and the Chinese duo of Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui. The outcome of that match will determine their next opponent as they continue their run in the tournament.
With this win, Amri and Nita become the sole remaining Indonesian representatives in the mixed doubles category at the All England Open 2026. Fans will be keenly watching to see if they can continue their impressive form and contend for a place in the semifinals and beyond.
