Amiens UC Badminton set up a spirited fight, but ultimately fell to Hersin-Coupigny 7-1 in a recent Pré-Nationale matchup. The team faced a challenging contest, particularly with key player Yvon Crépelle sidelined due to injury.
The match began with a closely contested mixed doubles pairing of Ophélie Béron and Lucas Petit (N3/R4) against Villedieu/Jumel (N2). Despite a tight first game (13-14), the Hersin-Coupigny duo ultimately prevailed 21-14. The Amiens pair continued to challenge in the second set, but Hersin-Coupigny closed it out 21-18, securing the first point of the day.
Léo Crépin and Thomas Binois (N2/R4) faced a tough battle against Michaux/Petit (N2), falling behind early 14-21 in the first game. They rallied in the second, taking it 21-19, forcing a deciding game. Although, the more experienced Hersin-Coupigny pair ultimately prevailed 13-21, extending their lead to 2-0.
Marie Lasquellec (R4) stepped onto the court for the women’s singles, putting up a fight against Sarah Van Holsbeeck (R5), leading early 13-10. Despite her efforts, Van Holsbeeck found her rhythm and took the game 21-17, 21-8. Marion Uguen (N3) also faced a difficult challenge in women’s singles, falling to Merel Peteet (N3) 14-21, 13-21, pushing the score to 3-0 for the visitors.
Lucas Petit (R5) provided a spark of hope for Amiens in men’s singles, competing against Gabin Jumel (N2). Petit played competitively, pushing Jumel to the limit, but ultimately lost two close games 19-21, 19-21. This brought the score to 4-0 in favor of Hersin-Coupigny.
Marie Lasquellec and Léo Crépin (R4/N2) briefly reignited Amiens’ hopes, winning the first game of their mixed doubles match against Michaux/Petit (N1/N3) 21-18. However, the Hersin-Coupigny pair responded strongly, taking the next two games 12-21, 14-21, extending their lead to 5-0.
Marion Uguen and Ophélie Béron (N3) provided the lone victory for Amiens, defeating Pateet/Van Holsbeeck (R4/R5) in a hard-fought match. They took the first game 21-19, lost the second 15-21, and secured the win in the deciding game 21-15, bringing the score to 1-6.
The final match of the day saw Thomas Binois (N3) face Guewen Villedieu (N1). Despite a valiant effort, Binois was unable to overcome the skill of Villedieu, falling in straight sets 8-21, 17-21, finalizing the score at 1-7.
