Mexico’s archery landscape is taking shape as nine of twelve athletes from Coahuila advanced to the final stage of the National Archery Selection Tournament. The third phase of competition concluded at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento (National High-Performance Center) in Mexico City, setting the stage for a crucial showdown in Tlaxcala next month.
The upcoming competition in Tlaxcala, scheduled for March 16-18, will determine the four top archers in each division and modality who will comprise the Selección A (Selection A) team. Matías Grande spearheaded Coahuila’s strong showing in the recurve division, finishing first with 300 bonus points. The 21-year-old, who recently captured gold at the 2025 Madrid World Cup, continues to demonstrate his rising prominence in the sport. Jesús del Ángel Flores secured third place with 214 points, while Juan Pablo Téllez finished fourth with 187, and Raúl Tadeo Rodríguez placed sixth.
In the women’s recurve category, Ángela Ruiz claimed second place with 276 bonus points, closely followed by Ana Paula Vázquez Flores in third.
García Sets National Record, Leads Compound Division
Sebastián García dominated the compound men’s division, topping the standings with 303 points. His performance included a new national record in the qualification phase at 50 meters with 72 arrows, achieving a score of 719 out of 720. While this score surpassed the world record of 719 set by Braden Gellenthien on July 13, 2026, it won’t be officially recognized as a world record due to not being achieved during official competition. Diego Borbolla also qualified for the final stage, finishing eighth with 146 points.
Dafne Quintero secured a third-place finish in the compound women’s division with 236 points, further solidifying Coahuila’s presence across multiple disciplines.
