LIVIGNO – Czech snowboarders Ester Ledecká and Zuzana Maděrová were the fastest in the opening part of the qualification of the Olympic race in parallel giant slalom.
Defending gold medalist from Pyeongchang and Beijing, Ledecká clocked 45.04 in the blue track, Maděrová was 34 hundredths of a second behind her. Advancement to the round of 16, which will start at 1:00 p.m., is decided by the sum of the times of the two races.
The position of the next favorite is currently confirmed by the leading woman of the World Cup, Tsubaki Mikiová from Japan, who was third in the first run, 58 hundredths behind Ledecká.
Since 2017, Ledecká has not lost a single one of the four races in the giant slalom in which she participated at the Olympic Games and the World Championships. This season she gave preference to skis for a long time, but when she returned to the board two weeks ago in Simonhöhe, Austria, she immediately claimed her 26th victory in the World Cup series.
She last failed in her favorite discipline in December 2021, when she fell in the final in Carezza, Italy. Maděrová has already appeared on the podium five times in the SP, including three times this season.
