During his most recent visit to Mérida, the head of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), Rommel Pacheco, announced that Yucatán is about to open a State High Performance Center specialized in archery, which will join the two that exist in the country located in Tijuana and Mexico City.
The federal official said that this center responds to the needs of the region and is a reality after the Yucatecan delegation has obtained excellent results at the national level in archery.
“The Yucatecan team has taken first place at the national level and this speaks of the great result, but we must always continue with the preparation, with the infrastructure, with all the support so that our Yucatecan athletes reach the national team,” he declared.
The venue will be located in the Wireless Olympic Sports Complex and will have the appropriate facilities to guarantee that the archers carry out their training under the best conditions.
In this regard, Carol Gamboa, president of the State Archery Association in Yucatan, declared that this high performance center is a demand that had been requested to improve the results of Yucatecan athletes and celebrated that it will soon be possible to train with the most functional facilities.
He reported that the works will begin this week and its delivery will be completed in approximately four months.
Gamboa highlighted that this center will have air-conditioned spaces, equipment to measure athletes, adequate shade and the entire space will be covered so that the state’s 120 archers can cover their training needs.
The State High Performance Center specialized in archery will also receive athletes from the region who require it and, in due course, national and international athletes who visit Yucatan to participate in competitions.
Its consolidation occurs within the framework of the Indoor World Series Merida 2026, an international archery meeting that will take place from February 13 to 15, and on the eve of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“It will benefit not only the archery shooters who are already selected for state and national teams, but it is intended to create an important school throughout the southeast and from here it will last, not only from now to Los Angeles (Olympic Games), but will continue,” Rommel Pacheco explained.
