The controversy continues in the world of ski jumping. Since revelations from the German media Bild, athletes have been suspected of cheating by having hyaluronic acid injections to thicken their penis and thus modify the amplitude of their suit, to fly longer. While the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has expressed its intention to look into this subject, it was the French ski jumpers and their management who reacted on Friday as part of the Milan Cortina Olympic Games.
“This seems a bit absurd to us. It’s a shame to only talk about ski jumping when there is (a subject of) cheating. There are other ways to talk about ski jumping,” lamented Jules Chervet, 22-year-old athlete, during a Blues press briefing in Predazzo.
There is no evidence to support that ski jumpers have resorted to penis enlargement to improve their performance, the International Ski Federation said on Friday.
“It’s a bit of an aberration”
“I’m as surprised as the FIS to see this thing… We can’t cheat on that, between the anti-doping controls, the doctor… And it’s not the combination that makes you jump, it’s above all the jump,” added the best French aerialist Valentin Foubert.
“Concretely, it’s a bit of an aberration,” added Étienne Gouy, director of the French ski jumping and Nordic combined teams.
The ski jumping events for the Milan Cortina Olympics begin at the end of the day in Predazzo (Trentino-Alto Adige) with the women’s competition on normal hill.
