André Villas-Boas was at the presentation of the Mundial2026 trophy at Estádio do Dragão and previewed next Monday’s classic with Sporting.
The president of FC Porto admitted that he wants to recover the seven-point advantage over his direct rival, after the defeat in Rio Maior against Casa Pia.
“It’s only the fourth round of the second round. It will be a competitive game, played by the two most in-form teams at the moment”, he admitted, removing the pressure from the blue and whites.
In conversation with journalists, social communication was the main target.
“I understand the schizophrenia of some media outlets, clearly aligned in green, who try to excite the meeting even more. It’s all part of the show-off. Some have red microphones, others have blue microphones, but have a clear tendency towards green”, he criticized.
The Porto director approached Sporting “at a stronger moment than FC Porto”. He assured his fans that he would “play with all his weapons” to regain an “advantage that is not decisive”.
Setting the tone for the last phase of the season, which will have “greater challenges” than the first, Villas-Boas praised the current situation in Portuguese football regarding refereeing complaints.
“Fortunately for Portuguese football, public interventions are over and it seems that we have found a certain sense of well-being in relation to the referees who can finally carry out their roles without noise”, he concluded.
