Van Polen Backs Regeer for Confidence Boost

Bram van Polen does not understand that Ajax has expressed confidence in Youri Regeer as Ajax’s number six. The Amsterdam midfielder must have gone crazy from all the transfer rumors, says the former defender ESPN. Van Polen hopes that Regeer can further develop in the position he has filled in recent weeks.

“How would Regeer feel now,” Van Polen begins during the transfer deadline show ESPN when it comes to all the defensive midfielders who were featured as Ajax targets during the winter transfer window. “They were really taking steps and how they want to implement it at Ajax is really more specific than what you regularly see with most number sixes.”

The former PEC Zwolle defender is full of praise for Regeer and thinks that the Ajax midfielder needs to gain more confidence. “He is developing. They are quite satisfied within the team and the staff with how he is doing. You just constantly hear all kinds of names from above and from outside. Wouldn’t that drive him crazy.”

Robert Maaskant, who is also at the table at the program, does not completely agree with Van Polen’s opinion. “That’s part of playing at the top,” he explains about all the noise surrounding the defensive midfielder position at Ajax. Van Polen thinks that giving Regeer confidence is the way forward for the people of Amsterdam. “I think he is doing better and better. Why don’t you just express all your confidence in Regeer for the next sixteen games.”
