At the end of an inspection mission carried out in the Congolese capital, the delegation of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Africa has officially validated the infrastructure to accommodate the U25 African Cup of Nations ladies wheelchair basketballscheduled for March 14 to 21, 2026 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A green light which confirms the in-depth work undertaken by the Congolese Wheelchair Basketball Federation (FECOBAF) and confirms the rise of the DRC on the continental scene of inclusive sport. Led by Gégé Kizubanata, president of the FECOBAF, the inspection mission brought together key figures from the African body, notably Gerhard Smith, secretary general of theIWBF Africa, Sibongile Fondini, president of the Competitions Commission, and Andrew Schoeman, head of IWBF competition support.
Over two days, experts scrutinized Kinshasa’s sports facilities, assessing accessibility, playing standards, security and logistics. The PNC Gymnasium, the twin gymnasiums of the Martyrs stadium and the Kinshasa stadium were thus inspected in the smallest detail.
At the end of this work, the gymnasiums of the Martyrs stadium were selected to host the official matches of CAN U25 ladieswhile the stadium will serve as a training base for the different selections. A strategic choice which places the competition at the heart of the largest sports complex in the country, in an environment capable of meeting international requirements and offering an optimal playing environment for athletes.
Beyond the organization, it is a whole message that the DRC is sending to the continent. By welcoming la CAN U25 ladies wheelchair basketball, the country of Félix Tshisekedi affirms its commitment to a competitive, inclusive and spectacular sport, carried by a new generation of female athletes ready to defend their colors with intensity.
