Previously, there was an expectation that the loan would be US$50 million, with US$20 million being transferred at this first stage. The values that have currently been studied by BTG, however, are 50% of this, that is, US$25 million (R$130.7 million). The amount would be used to pay part of the US$30 million (around R$156.9 million) that Botafogo owes to Atlanta United for the purchase price and contractual bonuses for the acquisition of Thiago Almada, in 2024.
Textor argues that, in addition to allowing Botafogo to re-register new players, the loan money will help the club keep the main players for longer, which would help with the sporting return and would also increase the market value of the athletes.
At the moment, the atmosphere is peaceful between John Textor and the social club’s board of directors. After a period of raids, Textor and President João Paulo Magalhães Lins returned to dialogue sparingly and have tried to build a solution together to Botafogo’s financial crisis. The duo traveled to São Paulo last Friday and met after the classic against Fluminense.
On the other hand, the social wing also understands that it needs to act firmly and that, if there is no positive scenario with the American businessman, there is a real possibility that they will opt for a future without John Textor at SAF.
