Lilli Tagger is in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Mumbai.
After 1:16 hours of play, the favored East Tyrolean won against the Japanese Eri Shimizu, who is ranked 413th in the WTA ranking, 6:2, 6:2 and thus made it into the round of the last eight.
Tagger, who is ranked 128th in the WTA world rankings, managed the break in the first game and later even managed a second one to make it 5:2. She doesn’t let this lead be taken away and ultimately wins the first round 6:2 on her own serve.
The Austrian also had the upper hand against Shimizu in the second round. She gets the double break to 4:2 and ultimately wins the second set 6:2.
The 17-year-old Austrian will face second-seeded Latvian Darja Semenistaja in the quarterfinals on Friday.
