In the last year and a half, Ilaria Olgiati’s career gained even more momentum. It began with the sensational bronze medal at the Paralympics in Paris, continued with the perfect European Championships last October in Istanbul and three gold medals and culminated in the award of Para-Badminton Player of the Year 2025 by the world association BWF.
Most recently, Olgiati was the best player in the world outside of China and she will look to build on that performance at the World Cup. However, forecasts are difficult because the Chinese players have once again made themselves rare internationally and are therefore unseeded – so the draw will be of great importance.
For the women, the Swiss medal potential is definitely there, especially thanks to the European champion doubles Cynthia Mathez/Ilaria Olgiati. The Swiss model duo narrowly missed out on precious metal at the Paralympics. Mathez, for her part, has repeatedly proven in singles that she can keep up with the very best.
In general, the Swiss quartet, which made up the strongest delegation at the European Championships with seven medals, can do a lot. National coach Marc Lutz said shortly before departure: “We trained well. Everyone is fit and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
