Before the trip to Racing Genk this Sunday, Vincent Euvrard hopes that his Standard will be able to achieve a performance worthy of the name away from home, as he has sometimes been able to do at home, in order to stay in the race for the top 6.
Vincent Euvrard knows it: Standard no longer has the right to make mistakes and must achieve its first series of victories of the season to still believe in the top 6. The first stage of these last five matches will be a trip to Racing Genk, this Sunday (1:30 p.m.), for which it will, as expected, be deprived of several starters.
“As communicated at the start of the week, Teuma and Dierckx will be absent for a few weeks. Epolo, Nielsen and Assengue are still injured. Casper has partially started again with the team, but without contact”, confirmed the T1 of Rouches at a press conference this Friday, before communicating, on the other hand, good news concerning Josué Homawoo, victim of a concussion last weekend.
“He completed the entire session with the group. We followed the concussion protocol and he feels good. Unless he has a reaction after today’s session, he will be in the group on Sunday,” reassured Vincent Euvrard. Ibrahim Karamoko, for his part, will start and will have to lend a hand to the weakened Liège defensive line.
A match that will decide the end of the Standard season
After this update on the infirmary, Vincent Euvrard spoke of the qualities of Racing Genk and the obligation to win to stay in the race for the Champions Play-Offs. “If we lose this Sunday, it will be over for us, even if we would finish very close to the goal with a 12/15 over the last five games. It is clearly the time to win at Genk to create good momentum and build forward,” launched T1 des Rouches.
Despite several injuries, Standard could benefit from a small physical advantage this Sunday, Genk having played this Thursday on the lawn of Dinamo Zagreb. “It is, of course, an advantage, but Genk has also gained a lot of confidence with six victories in the last seven matches. They have regained their status as a top 3 team,” underlined Vincent Euvrard, before refocusing attention on the performance of his own players.
I want a trip where we have a big match.”
“The most important thing is our performance. This match will decide in which fight we will be, that of the top 6 or the top 12. But our biggest fight is the one against ourselves: to seek this consistency, this consistency, and to seek outside what we have been able to do at home, namely to be competitive against the best teams in the country.
After the trip to Bruges where there wasn’t even a match, I want a trip where we have a great match. Our fight for the last five matches is to seek more performances of this type.”
