MAAS EN WAAL – Primary school students in the municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal will receive the new Sjors Sportief and Sjors Creatief booklet on Wednesday, February 11.
With this publication, children can become acquainted with more than eighty sporting and creative activities in the region. The offer varies from sports such as badminton and gymnastics to creative activities such as sculpting and playing the piano. Many activities are free and adapted sports are also part of the program, so that participation is possible for as many children as possible.
The Sjors offer is intended for students from groups 1 to 8 of regular primary education and for students of SO/VSO De Kom. They receive the booklet to take home, so that they can work with parents or supervisors to see which activities appeal to them. Participation is without obligation and there is no obligation to immediately become a member of an association.
Sjors Sportief and Sjors Creatief is an initiative of Actief Maas en Waal in collaboration with the municipalities of Druten and West Maas en Waal, regional sports associations, cultural organizations and other providers. Pim van Dinteren, team leader of Actief Maas en Waal, emphasizes the importance of the initiative: ‘At Actief Maas en Waal and both municipalities we think it is important that as many children as possible are introduced to sports and culture. Sjors has been making it possible for eight years to discover the versatile offering in our municipalities, without children having to become members immediately. This has led to many introductions and ultimately to children who have found a structural hobby.’
To draw attention to the new Sjorsboek, an official kick-off will be organized in both municipalities on Wednesday, February 11. The kick-offs take place at the St. Victorschool in Afferden and the De Terebint primary school in Wamel. During these moments, the aldermen present the booklets and hand them out to the students.
