Sissoko to Panathinaikos: Premier League Veteran Joins Pilsen

Panathinaikos, Pilsen’s opponent in the knockout phase of the Europa League, brought in an attractive reinforcement from the Islands in the winter. Moussa Sissoko (36), a midfielder with a decade of experience in the Premier League, decided to exchange rainy England for Greece. The Frenchman, who transferred from the second division Watford, signed a contract until the summer of 2027. The deadline for the rosters for the European Cups is on Thursday, the club from Athens has the opportunity to sign up the matador.

Sissoko began his professional career at Toulouse, moving from Ligue 1 to Newcastle in the winter of 2013. Tottenham spotted him there and paid 35 million euros for him in the summer of 2016. He spent five seasons with the Roosters, playing in the Premier League for almost 10 years in total.

In Watford, who are four points away from the play-off places in the Championship, he has gradually moved into the role of a joker in the current season. Even last year, he played 40 league matches and created a record of 6+1, now he will present his football skills in an attractive destination.

Sissoko moved to Greece, where he will defend the colors of Panathinaikos. He signed a contract until the summer of 2027, in his new place he will wear the number 17 jersey.

The club from Athens is the opponent of Pilsen in the round of 16 of the European League. The roster for this competition must be made and sent by Thursday, so the team with the shamrock on its chest can go to West Bohemia with a seasoned Frenchman.

The Greeks brought in seven players in the winter

The transfer amount was not specified in more detail. However, this does not apply to Panathinaikos’ other winter reinforcements. The Greeks brought in a total of seven new faces. They left €6.5 million for striker Santino Andino, who scored an assist on his Super League debut. Another forward, Andrews Tetteh, arrived for 2.2 million euros, who has already managed to establish himself in his new place of work.

Another €1.5 million cost duo Pavlos Pantelidis (winger) and Sotiris Kontouris (midfielder), left-back Javi Hernández and goalkeeper Lucas Chaves joined on loan.

The Athenian team already faced Pilsen in the league phase of the Europa League. The Victorians drew 0-0 away despite playing without the suspended Václav Jemelka from the 32nd minute. The doubleheader also starts at the Olympic Stadium of Athens on February 19, the second leg in Štruncový sady will take place a week later.
