{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}“The pilot even made a personal request to Sheriff Nanos, but he was ignored and sent on patrol,” a union representative told Fox Digital. “Unfortunately, this is typical of Sheriff Nanos’ leadership style. The department’s most experienced search and rescue officer was transferred to Patrol late last year, without being replaced, simply because “he had been there too long.” “This left a critical unit understaffed during one of the largest searches in PCSD history and during the busiest time of year for Search and Rescue.”
Nanos also admitted in an interview Friday with the Arizona Republic that he made other mistakes at the beginning of the investigation.
He said his department released Guthrie’s home as a crime scene too soon, only to return days later to recover additional evidence. Nanos acknowledged that the scene should have remained cordoned off longer and that other agencies could have been called sooner.
