Seko Fofana Joins FC Porto – Official

Ivorian international midfielder, 30 years old, arrives at Dragão from Rennes

The signing of Seko Fofana by FC Porto has been confirmed!

The 30-year-old Ivorian midfielder arrives at Dragão on loan, until the end of the season, from Rennes, in a deal that does not include any option to purchase the player’s pass from Porto.

Fofana chose to wear the Dragons’ number 42 in honor of his compatriot Yaya Touré, who made history at Manchester City and Barcelona, as well as for the Ivory Coast national team.

A SAD blue and white further informed that the deal was carried out without associated costs and did not involve any intermediary intervention.

Fofana reveals that he has already spoken to Francesco Farioli, who he knows as an opponent, and highlighted the Dragons coach’s ambition.

«I’ve already spoken to him and he told me a lot about the club. I already knew him as a coach, he managed teams I played against, he has a style of play that I really like, he is an ambitious man and has many characteristics that are close to my personality, so I am very happy to be here”, he told the club’s media.

Former colleague of Ronaldo not Al Nassr

Capped 31 times by Ivory Coast, who helped win the CAN in 2024Fofana grew up through the ranks of Paris FC and Lorient, where he was discovered by Manchester City, who signed him when he was 18 years old.

He would never make his debut for the main team of the cityzenswho transferred him to Fulham and Bastia before the midfielder left the English club permanently to join Udinese, which he represented between 2016 and 2020.

The following three seasons were spent at Lens, where he was a fundamental element in the team’s qualification for the Champions League in 2023.

That year, Al Nassr did not hesitate to pay 25 million euros for his pass. After scoring three goals and one assist in 25 games for Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, he ended up being loaned to Al Ettifaq, before Al Nassr sold him, for 20 million euros, to Rennes, the club he represented for the last season and a half.

A physically strong midfielder, with good technical ability and great range of movements, Seko Fofana becomes an important option for Francesco Farioli in attacking the decisive phase of the season.
