(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Dae-ho Lee = There was a local report that the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL) would begin a sale process immediately after the Super Bowl, but the team denied this.
ESPN, an American sports media outlet, cited sources on the 1st (Korean time) and reported that the Seattle club owner and the NFL office discussed a sale last week, and that the club will be put up for sale after the Super Bowl, which will be held on the 9th.
However, the late Paul Allen’s foundation, which owns the club, immediately issued a statement to the Associated Press and refuted the claim.
The foundation said, “We will not comment on rumors or speculation,” but drew a line by saying, “The club is not for sale.”
“Our focus right now is solely on winning the Super Bowl and finalizing the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers (NBA) in the next few months.”
Seattle will attempt to win its second career championship against the New England Patriots in this Super Bowl.
Seattle, acquired by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 1997, has been managed by his sister Jody Allen since his death in 2018.
In 2022, Allen said, “There may be changes at some point in line with my brother’s commitment to returning property to society, but the timing of the sale has not been set.”
