SC Itzehoe: Home Win Propels Team to Second Place

Even in the first leg, the duel between SC Itzehoe and SG TSV Kronshagen/Kieler BC with a total of six three-set games was much more competitive than the 7:1 final score in favor of Itzehoe suggested. And so an exciting duel developed on Saturday, in which the Störstädters mostly had the better end for themselves in the decisive phases.

The only things that were clearly in favor of the hosts were the first men’s singles by Ole Beyer and the second men’s doubles with Beyer and Frank Kossiski, which were each won easily in two sets. It was much more exciting in the women’s doubles, where Sonja Soltwisch and Sina Andrees were only able to break away decisively after the break in the third set and retained the upper hand with 21:16. The highlight of the evening was the first men’s doubles. After three hard-fought sets, Dirk Kaack and Malte Blohm converted their fifth match point to make it 24:22 in the deciding set. The early victory was secured by Soltwisch in the women’s singles and Blohm in the second men’s singles, who were able to improve once again in two close sets in the decisive phases. So it was painful for the Steinburgers that the third singles and the mixed doubles went to the guests in three sets each after entertaining games. With the 6-2 home win, the SCI climbs to second place in the North Regional League, as the undisputed leaders SG Großsolt/Munkbrarup/Flensburg won in the top game against the previous runners-up TSV Jarplund-Weding.

In the second game in the Wellenkamp sports hall, the SCI second team lost to SG Berkenthin/Krummesse 2:6. The team around captain Heiko Schulz again had to do without Daniel Erdtmann and Carsten Grelck. Therefore, this time Wilco Bruhns and Heiko Koch from the SCI’s third team joined the team and competed together in the second doubles. The two reserve players needed some time to get going, but were at least able to stand up to their opponents for a long time in the second set and only narrowly lost 18:21. The points for the SCI were won by Bruhns without a fight in the second men’s singles, as well as by the well-rounded mixed pair Ines Weidt/Stefan Mantey, who achieved their third win of the season in an exciting three-set thriller. The remaining games were sure prey for the favored guests, so the Störstädter are still waiting for their second win of the season.

Before the big season finale on March 7th in Wellenkamp, the Itzehoer teams each have three away games on their schedule. The first team is already challenged in the catch-up game in Rendsburg on Thursday evening (February 5th).

The second team will play a difficult away game against second-placed Möllner SV on February 8th.
