Rossi at the 2026 Winter Olympics: Tram Driver Cameo

Italy did things in a big way and couldn’t forget it! If Valentino Rossi is obviously not participating in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the Italian organization wanted to offer him a small role to pay tribute to him during a magnificent opening ceremony which highlighted the big names and the history of Italy this Friday evening.

And who better to represent Italian sport than the legend and nine-time MotoGP world champion? Now retired, Valentino Rossi appeared a few seconds in a video after the performance of American star Mariah Carey on the San Siro stage. Out with the handlebars, in with the steering wheel!

This video broadcast on the stadium’s giant screens featured passengers in a tram roaming the streets of Milan. After a stroll between the city’s emblematic monuments, we see the tram stop in front of the stadium, one of the four sites of the ceremony, before the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, the last passenger, gets out and goes to greet the driver who is none other than Valentino Rossi.

The opening ceremony continued with the parade of athletes from the 92 participating delegations. The two cauldrons will finally be lit to officially launch these Olympic Games, which are taking place in Northern Italy until February 22.
