Things are not going well for FC Utrecht and that of course also means that coach Ron Jans is under pressure. Should he be fired?
‘Shock effect at FC Utrecht after dismissal of Ron Jans’
Earlier this season, Jans announced his retirement after the 2025-2026 football year, but as far as Mike Verweij is concerned, he will retire earlier. In the podcast Kick-Off he says: “This is a very good moment for Ron Jans to leave FC Utrecht.”
“He coached a great match at Celtic Park against Celtic (4-2, ed.), which he really wanted. Now just say goodbye to that man,” the journalist continues. “He would also be at peace with that. If you do it correctly, he will leave through the front door and it will be fine. Let Rob Penders finish the season, it won’t go any worse.”
Verweij thinks that the Galgenwaard could use the ‘shock effect’: “A shock effect can actually be positive. Put in someone new, an Alex Pastoor for example, and I think things can get better. Ron Jans does not deserve to muddle through the rest of the season like this. Precisely because I have so much respect for him as a trainer, I would say goodbye to him now.”
Gregoor van Dijk said earlier RTV Utrecht about Jans’ future: “I do think that the club should stop if they really don’t like Ron, because the club’s interests come first. But after all the stories I have read, I don’t believe that. You don’t tell me that Ron suddenly can’t do anything anymore.”
Pension
On January 3, Jans said on his employer’s club website about his decision to quit as a football coach: “I have never made it a secret that the feeling of quitting has grown in recent years. I have a fantastic profession and I am having a great time at FC Utrecht. But at the same time you notice: you are not the boss of time. And in recent years there has been a growing need for time. Time for my family, my friends, my hobbies and perhaps also for myself.”
