Mike Verweij talks in the podcast Kick-off that there is indeed a clause in Stije Resink’s contract. According to media reports, the transfer fee for the FC Groningen midfielder would be seven million euros, but FC Groningen and the player themselves would rather not want this to become public.
“The special thing is that people around Resink and at Ajax claim that there is a clause of six million euros, but at Groningen this is strongly denied,” Verweij says with conviction in the podcast of Of Telegraph. Resink has been explicitly linked to various clubs in recent months, including Ajax and Benfica.
“It is also often the case that clubs and players’ agents want such a clause to be made public, because it is often shared with the club and agent if more is paid,” Verweij continues. “I cannot imagine that Groningen is lying about that. At Ajax they are firmly convinced that there is a clause.”
ESPN also revealed this week that Ajax has been in contact with the management of the Groningen captain for almost a year and a half. It is therefore expected that the Amsterdam team will sign up for the 22-year-old midfielder again this summer.
