Angel Gomes is about to make the switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to talkSPORT-journalist Alex Crook, the midfielder is currently undergoing his medical examination after an agreement was reached on deadline day. Gomes no longer figured in Olympique Marseille’s plans after the arrival of Quinten Timber.
Olympique Marseille transferred an amount of 4.5 million euros this month for the arrival of Timber. The former Feyenoord captain signed a contract with the French top club until mid-2030, where he is immediately eligible for playing time. Timber has already played two games for Olympique Marseille and had a starting place in both games. This has made Gomes redundant.
Gomes, who was once labeled as a top talent, moved to Marseille on a free transfer last summer after leaving OSC Lille, despite serious interest from England. However, he failed to make a lasting impression in Roberto De Zerbi’s team. The four-time England international and former Manchester United player played twenty games for Marseille this season and that seems to be the end of it.
Wolves as a way out
Angel Gomes now looks set to return to the Premier League to help Wolverhampton Wanderers out. The Wolves are in deep trouble in the Premier League this season. With only one win, the team is at the bottom and there are plenty of relegation concerns. Yet the club wants to keep fighting until the last moment to avoid the Championship. Gomes must help with that.
The 25-year-old midfielder is taken over by Wolverhampton Wanderers on a rental basis, with an option to buy. That option will only be taken if the club manages to maintain itself at the highest level. The England international is now undergoing his medical tests and looks set to become an official player soon Wolves to mention.
