Pierre Wolnik: Free Flight Champion Dies in Parachute Accident

Frenchman Pierre Wolnik (37 years old), two-time free flight world champion (2022 and 2024), died this Saturday in the mountain range of Mont Blancin the Haute-Savoie region of France, after the parachute he was carrying did not open perform a jump from a helicopter.

Wolnik, a member of the French team for the world championship this year, performed a jump with a ‘wingsuit’ or gliding suit, but the parachute he was carrying did not open, which left him with no option, according to French television ‘TF1’, citing sources close to the investigation.

The victim had no chance. It fell at high speed until hitting the ground in the municipality of Bossons. Alerted to the tragedy, the emergency services immediately went to the scene to help him, but they could do nothing for his life.

Pierre Wolnik’s body was picked up by a Civil Protection helicopter. French authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the fatal accident.

Pierre was very active on social media, where he regularly posted his jumps and wind tunnel training. Practitioners and fans of this risky sport showed their regret and condolences for the death of the two-time French world champion.
