Paulo Souza: Benfica Ambition & Future Plans

The 16-year-old midfielder signed a professional contract and hopes to add more titles to those already won in junior and youth teams

Midfielder Paulo Souza, 16, signed a professional contract with Benfica. A second-year youth player, the young man has been at the club for 7 seasons, having arrived in 2019/20 from Sacavenense. “I believe that taking this leap is something inexplicable. It was something I worked for repeatedly during these 7 years and I hope to achieve much more within this club”, he told BTV.

After becoming national champion for beginners (2023/24) and youth (2024/25), Paulo Souza is ambitious and highlights the most remarkable stage of his career so far. “Every season has had its remarkable moments, its lessons learned, but I believe that being national under-15 champion was a great moment”, he recalled, adding: “I want to go very far at Benfica, but in the short term I want to help the team become under-17 champion.”

In the current season, the midfielder was used in 18 games and scored one goal (in the 5-1 defeat of Torreense) in the national youth championship.
