The Swiss team came up trumps at the last international comparison. The World Cup quartet with Ilaria Olgiati-Renggli, Cynthia Mathez, Luca Olgiati and Marc Elmer won a total of seven medals at the European Championships in Istanbul last October. Switzerland thus became the most successful nation on the continent.
Now it’s all about World Cup medals next week in Manama/Bahrain. National coach Marc Lutz is satisfied with the preparations: “We trained well. Everyone is fit and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
Hopes rest on Olgiati-Renggli
The Swiss figurehead Ilaria Olgiati-Renggli is going to Bahrain with numerous successes under her belt, including bronze at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris and the European Championship gold hat-trick in Istanbul. The 26-year-old is one of the biggest medal contenders – in singles and doubles alongside Mathez.
The first group games take place on Sunday. The finals in the wheelchair categories are scheduled for February 13th.
