The Cardinals fired Gannon the day after their season ended with a ninth consecutive loss. Gannon was 15-36 in three seasons at the helm of the Cards, including a 3-14 mark last season.
Gannon had been the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons before being hired by the Cardinals.
In his second season in Philadelphia, the Eagles ranked second in the NFL in defense, and they won the National Association Championship Game before losing 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
The Eagles set a franchise record with 70 sacks, 15 more than any other team in the NFL, in 2022. They also had 27 interceptions that season, ranking fourth in the league in this regard.
The Pennsylvania team also finished in 10e NFL defensive rank in 2021.
For their part, the Cardinals finished in 27e position in terms of average yards allowed to the opponent per game (357.8), in 22e place for the average number of yards allowed per play (5.6) and 29e level in terms of points conceded per game (28.7) last season.
