“The city of Jihlava has prepared a public screening of the Winter Olympics on the residential staircase next to the Horácká Arena. The broadcasts will run daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. If important races or matches with Czech participation begin in the evening, the program will of course be extended so that viewers can see the key moments,” informed Jihlava City Hall spokesman Radovan Daněk.
The first screening will be the official opening ceremony from Milan on Friday evening at 20:00, which will take place at the famous Giuseppe Meazza Stadium (San Siro).
On Saturday and Sunday, tennis will be given space, which will be played in the new arena in Jihlava. The Davis Cup match between the Czech Republic and Sweden, with a capacity of 5,500 spectators, was sold out in about an hour, so fans who could not attend can at least soak up the atmosphere during the outdoor projection.
“The program will be operationally switched to the Olympic broadcasts at the moments when the Czech athletes take part,” explained the spokesperson.
The use of the staircase, which uses the difference in height between Tolstého street and the park, as well as the space around the Horácká arena, was already included in the project. “Thanks to the location in the center of the city, we can make similar broadcasts available naturally and easily to everyone who, for example, is just passing by on their way home from work, accompanies their children to training sessions in the arena or wants to cheer specifically,” said Mayor Petr Ryška (ODS).
He invited those interested to come cheer for the Czech athletes and enjoy the sporting atmosphere.
