Opening ceremony: On Friday evening (8 p.m., live blog on SZ.de) it will be official: The 2026 Olympic Games start in Milan’s San Siro. Ice hockey player Leon Draisaitl and ski jumper Katharina Schmid will carry the German flag together.
Eishockey: After the German women’s ice hockey team lost to Sweden on Thursday, France will meet Japan in the same group (12.10 p.m.). In the early afternoon, at 2:40 p.m., the Czech Republic will play against Switzerland.
Alpine skiing: The downhill training for the alpine racers begins at 11.30 a.m. After the weather conditions in Cortina prevented the women’s first training session on Thursday, the second one is still in jeopardy. If it takes place, it will be the first major stress test for Lindsey Vonn’s injured knee.
Figure skating: Qualification for the final round in the team competition takes place. The start is ice dancing (9:55 a.m.), followed by pair skating (11:35 a.m.). Finally, the women take part in the individual run (1:35 p.m.).
Curling: The curling preliminary round continues: In the mixed doubles, three games start at 10:15 a.m. (Sweden – Great Britain; Italy – Switzerland; USA – Canada). Afterwards there are four more games (Czech Republic – USA; Italy – Estonia; South Korea – Great Britain; Sweden – Norway).
