Experienced from playing in several clubs and leagues, Jens Olsson works today as an assistant coach in the Malmö Redhawks J20 team. But despite the highlights of his career, he remembers a time that was far from easy.
Jens Olsson has spent large parts of his senior playing career in Malmö Redhawks, but has also tried games in clubs such as Södertälje SK, Frölunda HC, TPS in Finland and a couple of games for Genève-Servette HC in Switzerland.
The career ended in 2024 in Slovakia, and since then he has been an assistant coach for the Malmö Redhawks J20 team.
Despite an impressive career, Olsson has also experienced tough times. Now he talks about a particularly difficult period. The year was 2019 and with one year left on his contract he was told he would be leaving the club – something that affected him deeply.
– It was a black hole. Once again, I have to thank Susanne Pettersson for the support that was there and then, because it came out of nowhere. It was very tough, because statistically I had a very good season. It was extremely difficult, says Olsson to Sydsvenskan.
But it would turn out to be good anyway and the career continued after all until he was 39 years old.
– I got the news at the age of 35. Once I climbed out of the hole, it gave me extreme strength to prove something again, he says to Sydsvenskan.
During the season, several young players got playing time in the A team, including Felix Carell, Elia Padrotti, Kalle Hemström and Isac Nilsson.
