James Pearce Jr., who has played for the Atlanta Falcons since last year, has been arrested in Florida for a “domestic incident.” The football professional also had an accident with his car while fleeing from the police, the authorities said.
According to police reports, there had previously been an argument with basketball player Rickea Jackson from the Los Angeles Sparks WNBA team. Jail records show Pearce is facing charges. The bail amount for each charge has not yet been set. There was no immediate comment from Pearce or an attorney.
Falcons confirm incident
The Falcons said in a statement that they were aware of the arrest. “We are aware of an incident involving James Pearce Jr. in Miami,” the Falcons said, according to US media. “We are currently gathering further information and will not be commenting further on the ongoing legal proceedings at this time.”
Pearce, a 22-year-old first-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons, played in all games for his team in the NFL season that ended on Sunday. At the end of his first NFL season, he finished third in the voting for the best defensive rookie of the year. Basketballer Jackson was named to the 2024 North American Women’s Professional League Rookie Team of the Year.
