According to various local media cited by the American press, the accident occurred late in the afternoon at the intersection of East Trade Street and North Tryon Street, in the heart of Charlotte. At the wheel of his camouflaged Hummer EV Edition 1,
LaMelo Ball allegedly attempted an unprotected left turn, while a Kia was approaching in the opposite direction. The collision was violent enough for the Hummer to hit the front of the sedan and lose at least one wheel, before ending up immobilized a few meters further.
Images broadcast by local channel WSOC-TV show the extent of the damage: the front of the electric SUV is disfigured, the wheel torn off, the bodywork damaged. Both cars were then towed.
