In Madagascar, judo is not just a sport, it is a philosophy of life that teaches to fall seven times and get up eight. But when Tropical Storm Gezani hit the East Coast with rare violence, even the most seasoned were knocked to the ground.
Flooded dojos, tatami mats transformed into muddy sponges, kimonos and belts swept away by the waters, several clubs in the Atsinanana Judo League are in disarray. Families of judokas find themselves today without a roof, without equipment, without anything.
Faced with this ordeal, the Malagasy judo federation and the Malagasy judo diaspora refuse to give up. They launch a vibrant appeal for national and international solidarity, reminding us that on the tatami as in adversity, we never fight alone.
“Judo taught us to fall and get up, but above all to never be alone,” insists the message carried by the two entities.
