BESSEGES – After three stages of the Etoile de Besseges race in France, Slovak cyclist Lukáš Kubiš put on the yellow jersey for the overall leader.

The Unibet Rose Rockets rider took second place in Friday’s 162.3 km long stage and is seven seconds ahead of German Henri Uhlig (Alpecin-Premier Tech) at the head of the overall classification.

The 26-year-old Slovak achieved the second podium position at the ongoing event, he was also second in Wednesday’s opening stage.

“All day we controlled the pace, we had a rider on the breakaway, and in the end the team helped me a lot to react to the attacks, thanks to which I could save my energy until the final.

However, the end was not easy – I am not a typical climber, so the longer climb in the last circuit was difficult for me. We start tomorrow as the overall leaders and although it looks like an easier stage on paper, it will not be easy to control. We will do our best to keep the lead,” said Kubiš for the Slovak Cycling Association. The race in France continues with the 4th stage on Saturday and will be closed by an individual time trial on Sunday.
