Like all Muslims in the world, Hugo Ekitike began his month of Ramadan this Wednesday, February 18. For the occasion, Liverpool, the club in which the French international (6 caps) has been playing since his transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2025, published a video on its social networks in which the striker explains what this sacred period means for him.
“My name is Hugo Ekitike and I am Muslim,” first reveals the former Parisian. “It’s a month that allows you to be closer to your religion, to your loved ones, to do good deeds and just to be purer than usual,” he then explains.
“I receive people at home and I share dinner with my loved ones. Above all, it’s an opportunity to be closer to God than I usually am, even if we try to be close to God even when it’s not Ramadan,” explains the striker trained in Reins. “After Ramadan, I often feel calmer, more patient in general, about what I expect from people and what I expect from myself. »
“The club will help us during this month”
During the interview, Ekitike also explains that Liverpool have a process in place to support their Muslim players during the month of fasting. “We have a few Muslims in the team so I know the club will help us during this month. Obviously we have had discussions about it and we are 100% supported by the club,” he said.
The question of Ramadan in professional football, which has caused tension in France in recent seasons, is also debated in British public opinion. This year again, the Premier League will implement breaks to allow affected players to break their fast during championship matches.
