What about Lindsey Vonn’s Olympic dream? After her fall on Friday, the American spoke out again. She is skipping the World Cup race on Saturday.
Ski star Lindsey Vonn continues to fight for a start at the Winter Olympics in Italy after her fall. “I’m doing my best right now,” wrote the American on Instagram. The 41-year-old said she would have to skip the Super-G in Crans-Montana in Switzerland this Saturday. Vonn is continuing to prepare for the Olympics, the AP news agency quoted her coach Chris Knight as saying.
Vonn fell heavily during the World Cup downhill in Crans-Montana on Friday and rushed into a safety net. She was then able to ski to the finish again, but held her left knee several times. “My Olympic dream is not over yet,” the best downhill skier of the winter so far wrote on social media afterwards. She announced further investigations. However, the long-time speed queen has not yet revealed any further information about a possible injury.
Vonn returned to the World Cup last season to great fanfare. This winter she has become the big favorite for the Olympics with two victories and several other top results. The games in Italy will open next Friday, with the women’s departure in Cortina d’Ampezzo already two days later. In 2010, Vonn won Olympic gold in the downhill.
