American skier Lindsey Vonn fell this Sunday, February 8, while competing in the women’s downhill category of alpine skiing in … the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. The athlete, who was making an extraordinary comeback despite a serious knee injury, reportedly hooked her right pole at the beginning of the race, after which she lost control and ended up landing on her side.
Vonn, who already became an Olympic medalist during 2010, when the competition was held in Vancouver, was heard screaming. Her expression of suffering plunged the fans and her teammates into complete silence. Additionally, fellow world champion Breezy Johnson covered her eyes and looked away when a helicopter was called.
The skier, who won the Princess of Asturias Sports Award in 2019, hoped to become the oldest Olympic alpine skiing medalist. However, the Tofane track, an example of danger, did not allow him to finish the competition.
