The opening of the 21st day of Ligue 1 featured two of the three sickest teams in the championship. Still bottom of the table, FC Metz is no longer doing well, with a worrying record of seven defeats in its last eight matches, and was hoping to count on the poor form of LOSC to temporarily return to Nantes, the roadblock. Because Lille have not won for four days in Ligue 1 and risked losing their fifth place in the event of a victory for Stade Rennais.
Lacking offensive realism, the Dogues, with their new recruit Edjouma lined up from the start, thought they would get a penalty from the start… but the intervention of the VAR saved the Grenats (8th). A few minutes later, FC Metz in turn believed they could open the score thanks to Touré, finally penalized for an offside position at the start of the action (18th). Dominant for the rest of the first period, Lille was still narrowly lacking in front of goal. Haraldsson was off target (39th), before two new opportunities missed by Edjouma (40th, 44th).
A scenario that repeats itself
Same scenario in the second half, with new inaccuracies from Lille (50th, 59th). Enough to leave some opportunities for the Garnets (51st), solid defensively and who isolated Giroud well. In the best northern action of the match, André found Correia alone at the far post, but his shot on target was deflected at the last minute by Fischer onto his post (76th). LOSC pushed more towards the end of the match, without managing to make a difference, with finishing once again lacking.
But time ended up working against both teams. After a final Lille opportunity from rookie Perrin, well slammed by Ozer (87th), the score no longer changed. A new misstep for LOSC, now relegated six points behind OL and under threat of falling to sixth place. Metz, still last and who could even have regrets for not having managed to open the score, continues to sink before a meeting already crucial for its survival against Auxerre.
