LeBron James Streak: Will It End Tonight?

LeBron James’ record streak of All-Star selections will be on the line Sunday night, when the NBA releases the list of 14 players selected as reserves for the mid-season classic on February 15.

James holds several records at this event. Among them: his active streak of 21 consecutive match selections, as well as 20 match appearances and 434 points scored in those encounters.

The Los Angeles Lakers star was not selected as a starter this season under the process that includes voting by fans, media and other players. NBA head coaches choose reserves and, if necessary, commissioner Adam Silver will select additional players needed to fill out the roster if someone needs to be replaced due to injury.

James did not play in last season’s All-Star Game due to injury.

This season’s event will take place as a tournament pitting the United States against the rest of the world, with three teams of at least eight players competing in 12-minute matches. Each team is guaranteed to play two matches in a round-robin format, with the top two teams meeting again in the final.

The players selected last month as starters are: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee), Jaylen Brown (Boston), Cade Cunningham (Detroit), Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia), Jalen Brunson (New York), Stephen Curry (Golden State), Luka Doncic (Lakers), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City), Nikola Jokic (Denver) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio).

The All-Star Game will be played at the Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
