” href=”https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetballers/kodai-sano”>Kodai Sano made himself heard on Instagram on Thursday morning. The 22-year-old midfielder was the topic of conversation in the closing days of the transfer market, but remained a ‘normal’ NEC player. During the quarter-final of the cup against FC Volendam, the Nijmegen fans showed a large banner for Sano, who in turn appreciated it.

It became more than clear during the winter transfer period that Sano has been in the spotlight during the first half of the season – and the two seasons before that. Especially after his fantastic goal against AZ with the outside of the foot, the Japanese could not escape concrete interest. Ajax, among others, was eager to acquire the talented player.

NEC does not want to lose Sano

The Amsterdam team reportedly had ten million euros plus Ahmetcan Kaplan for the NEC midfielder. The Nijmegen team rejected that offer, after which Ajax withdrew from the negotiations. Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and clubs from the Bundesliga also had Sano in mind, but NEC – partly thanks to the departure of Kento Shiogai – did not want to lose any more basic player. An offer of no less than twenty million euros did not change that position.

Sano responded two days ago himself on the lack of his transfer. On Wednesday evening, the 22-year-old was ‘normal’ on the field in the quarter-final of the Eurojackpot KNVB Cup against FC Volendam (1-0). In the 23rd minute of the match, NEC supporters showed their appreciation for Sano. They showed a large banner with the text ‘Sano is red, green, black’, the club colors of the Nijmegen team. They also sang, among other things, ‘Sano is ours’.

Telling Instagram post

On Thursday morning, the Japanese will reflect on the action of the NEC audience. The midfielder shares three photos on his Instagram, including a photo of the banner. This may show that Sano has resigned himself to the absence of his transfer and is focusing on the second half of the season in the Goffert.
