The Norwegian skiing icon was not gracious when, before the Olympics, she analyzed Frida Karlsson’s gold chances. To VG said Johaug that Karlsson has not succeeded stabilize.
– I think Frida is still uneven. She (Frida) can impress in individual races, and she beat me in the five mile last year. But I don’t think she is a clear favorite to win several Olympic golds this year.
The statement came on Thursday.
Karlsson: “Take it easy”
The answer from Karlsson came just over two days later. Frida Karlsson was phenomenal, crushing everyone in the skiathlon over 20 km and taking Olympic gold.
– Nice to be able to show her, says the Swede when SVT Sport talks to her after the victory and continues:
– I have really done what I love. I have been looking forward to this day. Before the WC last year, there were a lot of restrictions, but now we let go of everything and take it easy.
National team manager Anders Byström was, of course, hugely impressed – but also surprised.
– In the last week, you have felt that something big is going on. She has joked, been harmonious and safe, says Byström.
