A relief. After long days of waiting and doubt, the transfer of N’Golo Kanté to Fenerbahçe is official. The French midfielder leaves Al-Ittihad two and a half years after his arrival, and returns to Europe four months before the 2026 World Cup, which he hopes to be able to play with Didier Deschamps’ Blues.
The 2018 world champion saw his transfer derailed Monday evening due to an administrative failure on the part of the Saudi club and thought he would have to finish the season there. The player even made it known that he no longer wished to play until a solution was found.
But discussions ultimately continued between the two clubs and, after conciliation with Fifa and the termination of his contract, N’Golo Kanté will be able to join Turkey. “The club agrees to sell the remainder of N’Golo Kanté’s contract,” explained Al-Ittihad this Tuesday evening in a press release.
The French international will therefore be able to return to the Old Continent and even compete in the Europa League with his new club, which he joined until June 2028. In the opposite direction, Youssef En-Nesyri, whose transfer depended solely on that of Kanté, will join Al-Ittihad from Fenerbahçe. All’s well that ends well.
