AA Gent is trying to strengthen itself defensively in the final phase of the transfer period, but a targeted attempt came to nothing.
With the departure of Samuel Kotto to Reims, the club is urgently looking for a new central defender. Trainer Rik De Mil brought a player he knows well to the attention of the board.
It was Stelios Andreou, the Cypriot defender who played under De Mil at Charleroi last season. Ghent hoped to bring him back to Belgium.

Andreou had played almost everything at Charleroi last season and was sold to Polish Widzew Łódź last summer for just over a million euros. He is also a permanent fixture there, together with fellow countryman Andi Zeqiri.
According to journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk, his current club gave a clear “no” to the Buffaloes. A return to the Pro League is therefore not an option for Andreou.
AA Gent must therefore continue to look for an alternative. Time is running out, because Belgian clubs still have until Monday evening to complete their last transfers – although sometimes the best deals are closed in the closing days.
