Judo Paris Grand Slam: Boukli & Cysique Gold Medals

Home champions. Already crowned in 2024, judoka Shirine Boukli won the gold medal on Saturday in less than 48 kg at the Grand Slam in Paris, just like Sarah-Léonie Cysique in less than 57 kg. The first, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics who was eliminated from entry into the Grand Slam in Tokyo, found her smile again by winning in the golden score final against the Chinese Zhuang Wenna.

Sarah-Léonie Cysique, silver and bronze medalist at the 2021 and 2024 Olympic Games, won her first gold medal at the Grand Slam in Paris by beating Akari Omori, while Faïza Mokdar took bronze in this category as did Amandine Buchard in -52 kg.

Joan-Benjamin Gaba, reigning world champion -73 kg and one of the headliners of the tournament, was however beaten in the round of 16 by the British Benjamin Levy. The Frenchman, who has been playing for PSG Judo since September, was surprised in the Golden Score by the Briton, the two judokas being tied at the end of the regulation four minutes of the fight.
