Watch Erik Niva react to Gianni Infantino’s outing in the player above.
It was the other day that the president of the International Football Association, Gianni Infantino, in an attention-grabbing move, opened up to letting Russia into football again.
– This is completely in line with the organization that Fifa has developed into. This is somewhere the great sadness of modern football, says football journalist and author Erik Niva in Aktuellt.
The tops react to the play
Russia has been the gateway to the football world since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. And reactions have come from the Ukrainian side as well.
“His words are irresponsible – not to say infantile,” the country’s sports minister Matvii Bidnyi wrote on X after the statement.
From the Swedish side, the chairman of the Swedish Football Association announced during the day that it is sticking to its line regarding Russian participation in football.
– If the development in Ukraine does not take place in a positive direction, where there is a clear plan for a lasting peace that feels relevant, then we do not see that there is any reason to change our position, says Simon Åström to SVT Sport.
The last championship that the Russian men participated in was the European Championship 2021.
