Idzes Save: Italian Media Praise, Valuation Soars

KOMPAS.com – Jay Idzes’ “miraculous” save in the match against Pisa vs Sassuolo was in the spotlight of the Italian media.

Jay Idzes’ crucial action helped Sassuolo win 3-1 at Pisa’s headquarters, Arena Garibaldi, Saturday (31/1/2026).

In the match in Week 23 of the 2025-2026 Italian League, Jay Idzes made a crucial sweep right in front of the goal line around the 51st minute, not long after Pisa scored a goal through Michel Aebsicher which made the score 1-2.

Previously, Domenico Berardi gave Sassuolo the lead via a neat solo run in the 25th minute.

Antonio Caracciolo’s own goal (45+1′) put Pisa even further behind. Because of this, Aebischer’s quick score at the start of the second half became a hope for the home team, aka Il Nerazzurri (The Black and Blue).

Not long after Aebischer’s goal, Mehdi Leris almost equalized the score, after he reached the ball faster than Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric who advanced from his nest.

The ball rolled towards the Sassuolo goal which was no longer in possession. However, Sassuolo survived because there was still the Indonesian national team defender, Jay Idzes.

Miraculous Rescue

Jay Idzes swiftly reached the ball. While dropping down, the man born in Mierlo blocked the danger right in front of the goal line.

Goal line technology shows that the round skin has not yet entered Sassuolo’s goal. So, the visiting team, aka Il Neroverdi (The Black-Green) also has the right to maintain a 2-1 lead over Pisa.

“The centre-back’s performance was very impressive as he really saved the final result with a miraculous save on the goal line after goalkeeper Muric made a careless exit from the nest,” according to Italian media analysis, Tuttomercatoweb for Jay Idzes action.

Tuttomercatoweb gave a score of 7 for Jay Idzes’ performance throughout the duel against Pisa. Idzes’ score is only less high than Domenico Berardi, who really looks charming.

Idzes’ save for Mehdi Leris’ effort was worth three points because not long after, Sassuolo were able to seal the result thanks to Ismael Kone’s goal (58′). Sassuolo also won 3-1 over Pisa.

“His block for a corner kick to thwart (Matteo) Tramoni’s curling right-footed shot showed perfect timing and excellent understanding of position,” Tuttomercatoweb praised Jay Idzes.

“He also dominated aerial duels against (Henrik) Meister and (Rafiu) Durosinmi, while also showing character as a charismatic, experienced defender,” wrote the media known by its initials TMW.
