The new year of fortress events in Ziegenhain begins with demonstrations on Saturday, February 7th.

Schwalmstadt – The reenactment group of the Ziegenhain Fortress working group opens the new season with a New Year’s drill this Saturday, February 7th, on the parade ground.

The exercise takes place specifically in public – spectators are expressly welcome. Drill squads, turns and marching formations will be shown according to historical regulations, according to the announcement.

Two formations can be observed

The focus is on strengthening cohesion, properly practicing commands and recruiting young talent.

Experienced comrades take over the leadership of the two formations: Elian Semmler leads the grenadiers, Jerry Dittrich the hunters – based on the regulations that reenactment groups of the Society for Hessian Military and Civil History practice. A small provision is provided.

Weather note: If the weather is bad, the drill will take place in the fortress’s riding arena (former drill hall). Times for spectators (public part): 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., drill, march in a group setting; 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., turns and march in a group setting.

Foretaste of the camp on Ascension Day

Numerous activities are planned in the water fortress throughout the year, including a large camp during Ascension Week.

The anniversary of the multi-part film “The Winter That Was a Summer”, which was broadcast by ARD in 1976, should also be included – numerous scenes were shot in Ziegenhain. The Fortress Working Group and the Association for the Promotion of the Confirmation City are currently collecting information and material.
