The curse of the Frenchies on the Knicks continues. The captain of the French basketball team Guerschon Yabusele, transferred to the Chicago Bulls last night, imagined his time in New York “differently”, he wrote on his social networks on Thursday a few hours after the announcement of his departure by several American media.
The strong winger (30 years old, 63 caps) arrives in Illinois in exchange for fullback Dalen Terry, after having been in limbo under the orders of coach Mike Brown.
“New York, I had imagined our adventure differently, but in the life of an athlete, things do not always go as planned,” the former Real Madrid interior wrote on his social networks on Friday.
Little used in New York
“I remain honored by every moment spent with this legendary jersey,” added the author of a legendary dunk on LeBron James in the final of the Paris Games in 2024, who “wishes the best for the future” to his now former partners.
Yabusele played very little for the Knicks (8.9 minutes on average in 41 games, for 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds), where he arrived after a good season in Philadelphia (11 pts, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27 minutes on average) for his return to the NBA.
If his title chances disappeared by leaving the Knicks, second in the Eastern Conference (33v-18d), “the dancing bear”, his nickname, should find playing time at the Bulls, another legendary franchise, stuck in the middle of the ranking in the East but still in the race to qualify for the play-Ins (10th, 24v-27d).
The Bulls, who have just parted ways with their pivot Nikola Vucevic (who left for Boston) and their fullback Coby White (Charlotte), welcomed at the same time another Frenchman, winger Ousmane Dieng from the reigning champion, Oklahoma City.
