Tallon Greek Spoor refuses to play for the Dutch Davis Cup team for the time being. The number 29 in the world is not happy with the policy of the Dutch tennis association (KNLTB).
“If we indicate things and the association says: we agree with you, but a week later the opposite is done, then it will end at some point,” Greekpoor told Nu.nl. “The top players are not listened to. There is no plan, no communication from the association. What role do I still have in the Dutch team?”
His criticism focuses, among other things, on the management of the tennis association. “I find it incredible that Jacco Eltingh, as director, is rarely present at the national training center in Amstelveen. And Paul Haarhuis is employed part-time as captain by the KNLTB? That is not possible if you want to rise as a tennis country, it is so amateurish.”
Greek Spoor says it has no problem with Davis Cup captain Haarhuis. “But there are also people above him. Does Paul have the final say at the union? I don’t know.”
Eltingh reacts in surprise
Haarhuis does not want to respond to the statements of Greek Spoor in the upcoming Davis Cup weekend (the Netherlands plays in and against India), who does not want to elaborate further on his story to the NOS.
At Nu.nl, Eltingh reacts with surprise to the allegations made by Greek Spoor. “I’m hearing this for the first time and I think it’s a shame that he says it like this. Tallon has plenty of room to express his opinion. I’m sure he has little evidence for his criticism and I don’t want to justify it in this way. What does my presence at the NTC have to do with the Davis Cup?”
Greek Spoor has a good record in the national tournament. For example, he reached the final with the Netherlands in 2024, where they lost to Italy.
He has withdrawn from the Netherlands’ Davis Cup encounters the last two times: against Argentina (September 2025) and India (next weekend). Botic van de Zandschulp is also not available in India.
